A Journey of 1,000 Miles

3/12/2012

Take a few moments today to get really clear.  What are your top 3 goals?  Sit quietly for a moment of reflection.  Once you know what those are, take one small step today to get there.  Your step could be any of the following:

1. Draft a plan.
2. Decide on something to eliminate.
3. Pick on action and do it.
4. Enlist help.

5. Give yourself permission.
6. Meditate on options and solutions.

Pick one and get going.
A journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. (Chinese proverb)

First Step to Get Past Under-Earning

8/11/2011

Under-Earning can plague even six-figure earners.  The set of symptoms is diverse. Your gross income may or may not be an indicator.  One major symptom for many who under-earn is vagueness around their money.  Some of us never know what's in our bank accounts until there's a problem.  Some of us keep great track of our income but not of our spending, savings, retirement, or monies still owed to us.  Or maybe we're not clear about what products, practices or services really gives us the best ROI in our businesses.
Vagueness is anathema to wealth.
Do any of us think Trump, the Hiltons or the many other wealthy don't know exactly where their money is and what it's doing for them all the time?  We have many reasons for avoiding looking at our finances.  Now is the time to move past those "reasons".   These reasons turn into excuses when we let them continue to hold us back.
Step 1
Get so clear that it seems ridiculous.
Write down every penny in and every penny out every day for three months.  Penny means p-e-n-n-y.  All the dollars, quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies.  This may seem like overkill.  That's OK.  Do it anyway.  If you miss one day, continue on the next.
If you miss a week.  Start over again.  It matters that you keep going.
If you're super clear on your checking account, then add your savings/investment/retirement accounts.
Is this about your business?  In that case it's important to write down every penny as well as tracking your time spent on work.  You may discover an obvious fix and/or you may realize you're doing better than you'd thought.  Whatever you find, it's OK!  From a place of clarity you can make the most powerful and propelling decisions.  This is where you want to be.  In clarity and power you'll find your sweet spot.  You may not find your sweet spot right away.  You will probably feel uncomfortable for a while.  That's good.  It's part of the adventure.  And really, when you look back at the last challenge you overcame, the one that seems so small now, this too has come to pass.

What is Coaching?

What if your life got more joyful, satisfying and easier?  What if you could make your life be exactly as you want it to be - content and satisfied and hungry for more? While a lot has been said (and even joked about) the idea of "life coaching," it may be the key to unlocking your now and removing the roadblocks that keep you from your highest potential.

Great business leaders use coaches to develop their employees. Coaches help by clarifying thinking, giving feedback, providing support and maintaining a healthy level of challenge. I have worked with attorneys, teachers, executives, farmers, small-business owners, spiritual leaders, and even civil-servants to define their own goals and help them come to their path.

Overall, coaching is about facilitating positive change. It is also about getting where you want to go easier and faster while reducing complications and roadblocks.

Now, more than ever, people are seeing the value of having a coach.  Just as sports coaches give feedback and keep their teams on track, life coaches help all of us do and be our best.  A coach is someone who is totally in your corner, focused totally on you.  You have regular appointments to work on your goals and dreams so that time doesn’t fall through the cracks.

Think for a moment on the idea of the hero and the hero’s journey.  It is the tale of a person leaving a familiar world, usually encountering a guide/teacher, experiencing an adventure/quest, meeting obstacles, learning and developing something new within themselves and then returning home to utilize that knowledge in helping the community in some way.

Hero stories resonate with us so much because we all are on our own hero journey.  We live for a purpose and we work to reach our goals.  In that process we are changed.  In a very real sense, coaching is a natural progression of this hero journey and coaches are the guides that people are utilizing to facilitate their own progress of personal development.

Your Life Is Your Job
You are on a hero’s journey.  Remember, no one can do what you were put here to do. You are worth every penny and every bit of energy you expend on you.  Tiger Woods, LeBron James and Michael Jordan all had coaches.  Isn’t your life really your main job?  Show up for all the important roles and relationships in your life while being your best and giving your best with the help and clarity of coaching.

Forgiveness is Mental, Emotional & Spiritual Clearing
Clearing out the clutter of our lives helps us make space for more of our good to come in. This is true on the physical and spiritual level.
We clear out our closets and storage spaces and we all of a sudden feel clearer headed and more peaceful. Many times, other problems in our lives work themselves out after a thorough clearing of space. The same is true for clearing out our internal space.
By forgiving the things we judge as bad we clear mental, spiritual and emotional space for more wonderfulness to come to us.
By forgiving, we open our hearts to joy. We see more clearly the possibilities before us and we make better decisions.

My name is Yamaya.  I am a native Floridian and aspiring cosmopolitan world traveler. I love writing, coaching and helping people become fully present and actualized.  I do this through coaching, writing this blog, essays/poetry, training and as a classroom teacher.  Life has been good to me. Getting into the rich, delicious, nitty-gritty of life is quite close to my heart.
I have two lovely daughters, Rhiannon and Ellison.  Motherhood has helped me define myself while at times allowing me to question the heck out of who I am - and who I want to be.  Thank you universe for my husband and those girls.  I'm thinking of having a baby boy now - we'll have to see what happens.
I would love to hear your comments and feel some of your love on my blog and my website.  Thanks for being here.
